Reflections from Ravichandran Ashwin on His “Draining Journey”

Despite playing a significant part in India’s journey to the top match, Ravichandran Ashwin was upset to learn that he would not be playing in the ICC World Test Championship final last month. The skilled offspinner, on the other hand, has already gone beyond it and won’t dwell on it for too long.

In his first Test match since winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this year, Ashwin made a brilliant return to help India dismiss West Indies for 150 on Day 1 of the first Test in Dominica.

Winning the WTC final, according to Ashwin, would have been a significant career high point.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-73599″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-reflections-from-ravichandran-ashwin-on-his-draining-journey-download-2023-07-13t162809.628.jpg” alt=”” width=”1398″ height=”1047″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-reflections-from-ravichandran-ashwin-on-his-draining-journey-download-2023-07-13t162809.628.jpg 259w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/www.theindiaprint.com-reflections-from-ravichandran-ashwin-on-his-draining-journey-download-2023-07-13t162809.628-150×112.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1398px) 100vw, 1398px” />

“Sitting out is acceptable as a cricketer when you have a chance to play in the WTC Final. After the last play of the day, Ashwin addressed the media and said, “For me, it was how do I react and how do I make sure the dressing room is up and about.”

“Winning the WTC Final is the most important thing, and it could have been a very high point in my career and I could have played a good role in it, but it was just unfortunate that it didn’t pan out and the first day left us too far behind in the shed,” he said.

In the playing XI for the World T20 final at The Oval in London, India included just one specialist spinner, Ravindra Jadeja, and they fell to Australia by a score of 209 runs.

“But what makes me any different from someone else who will pout (about being fired)?” Ashwin said, “All I would want to leave with my teammates and India cricket as a whole is some understanding and my best efforts on the field.

Additionally, following Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, Ashwin became the third Indian to reach the milestone of 700 wickets at the international level.

The 36-year-old said that he has always made an effort to grow from his mistakes.

No person or cricket player has ever experienced the highs without the lows, according to Ashwin.

“Having low points presents opportunities. Either you learn from it, and I am someone who has continuously done so, or you wallow in it, speak about it, or whine about it, and go down with it.

“I will have a nice lunch, have a wonderful conversation with my family, go to bed, and forget about it today after this fantastic day that I have had. When you have a nice day, you are aware that it has been a fantastic day. However, some days are opportunities to work hard and improve for the next day.

“It is not a journey that has been very easy, so for me the journey has been draining, but I am very thankful for all the lows that have come my way also because without the lows there are no highs in your life,” he said.
