Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Sports, explained why he will not be attending the Asian Games in China. After China refused to provide visas to three Indian athletes from Arunachal Pradesh, Thakur has made the decision to take a tough stance.

Thakur said that he has chosen to skip the Asian Games because he believes Arunachal Pradesh to be a crucial component of the nation at an event in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-198445″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-actor-vishal-gets-criticized-by-the-madras-high-court-for-disobeying-a-court-order.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com actor vishal gets criticized by the madras high court for disobeying a court order” width=”1026″ height=”569″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-actor-vishal-gets-criticized-by-the-madras-high-court-for-disobeying-a-court-order.jpg 301w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-actor-vishal-gets-criticized-by-the-madras-high-court-for-disobeying-a-court-order-150×83.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1026px) 100vw, 1026px” title=”Anurag Thakur, the minister of sports, explains why he did not visit China 12″>

“When they (China) denied three of our athletes from the state of Arunachal Pradesh a visa to compete in the Asian Games. Since Arunachal Pradesh is a fundamental part of India, I made the decision not to go and compete at the Asian Games, Thakur added.

The organizing committee for the Hangzhou Asian Games has given permission for three female martial artists from the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh to compete in the sporting spectacular.

The wushu warriors, however, were unable to download their accreditation cards, which serve as entry permits to China.

According to a statement from India’s foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, China has discriminated against a few of the Indian athletes “in a targeted and premeditated manner.”

“China’s action violates both the spirit of the Asian Games and the rules governing their conduct, which explicitly prohibits discrimination against competitors from member states,” he said.

He said that a “strong protest” had been made about “China’s deliberate and selective obstruction of some of our sportspersons” in both Beijing and New Delhi, and that the sports minister’s travel to the event had been postponed.

Similar circumstances occurred in July, when the Indian wushu team decided against going to Chengdu, China, for the World University Games after the same three athletes received stapled rather than pasted visas, a sign that Beijing does not recognize India’s claim to Arunachal Pradesh as its own territory.
