<p><strong>NEW DELHI:</strong> The India-Russia Summit has not taken place for the last two years, but on December 25, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar is expected to go to Russia for four days. The visit is a part of the two countries’ continuing high-level diplomatic engagement.</p>

<p>“Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Minister of Trade and Industry, will meet with Jaishankar during his visit. Discussions on international, multilateral, and bilateral problems will be held. Strong people-to-people and cultural linkages between the two countries will also be highlighted. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, according to a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).</p>
<p>The relationship between Russia and India is referred to as a “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.” There will probably be talks on improving defense cooperation, investments, and the growth of commerce in local currencies.</p>
<p>In 2022–2023, India and Russia’s bilateral trade amounted to $49.36 billion. Russia’s imports were around $46.21 billion, while India’s exports were estimated to be approximately $3.14 billion. India’s commerce with Russia increased by 161.22% during April and May of 2023–24 in comparison to the same time the previous year.</p>
<p>On December 6, 2021, the Prime Minister of India and the President of the Russian Federation convened their last yearly summit. Vladimir Putin was present during the 21st India-Russia Annual Summit, which took place in Delhi.</p>
<p>In 2022, Prime Minister Modi planned to go to Russia. However, the meeting was missed for the second year in a row due to the war that broke out between Russia and Ukraine on February 24, 2022.</p>
