The International Cricket Council (ICC) headquarters in Dubai recently hosted a signing ceremony when the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) successfully obtained the hosting rights for the coveted Champions Trophy in 2025. Zaka Ashraf, the head of PCB, and Jonathan Hall, the general counsel of the ICC, were in attendance.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems unlikely to send the Indian squad to Pakistan for this important tournament, however. This move is hardly surprising, given that the Asia Cup 2023—a hybrid competition—was contested without the Indian team visiting Pakistan.

As to a report that was posted on Cricketpakistan.com, Zaka Ashraf had a recent conversation with the Vice Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, Khalid Al Zarooni. It is important to note that the UAE has said that Pakistan would always get its full support, even if the Champions Trophy was not brought up directly during their discussion.

“Reports suggest that it is not impossible to move certain Champions Trophy matches to the United Arab Emirates if India decides not to send a team. However, the research said that the ICC would have to pay the extra costs and that the tournament structure could need to be changed.

PCB firmly believes that the International Cricket Council (ICC) should not act unilaterally in the event that a nation chooses not to send its side because of security concerns. Rather, the International Criminal Court needs to carry out a thorough analysis in collaboration with a separate security organization. There have been rumors that the ICC has agreed to grant the PCB’s request.
