S Jaishankar, India’s Minister of External Affairs: A Country Proud of Its History

<p><strong>Developing Relationships with Nigeria</strong><br />
Throughout his stay, Jaishankar spoke about deepening his connections with Nigeria. He said that there is now between USD 12 and USD 15 billion in trade between the two nations. Jaishankar extended an invitation to Nigerian investors to investigate prospects in India, especially in industries like pharmaceuticals and medical devices where India has shown robust growth.</p>
<p><strong>Mutual Exchanges</strong><br />
During his visit to Nigeria, Jaishankar had a number of important meetings. Along with his Nigerian counterpart, he co-chaired the sixth India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting and attended other leaders’ meetings. In addition, he unveiled a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, spoke at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, opened the third edition of the Nigeria-India Business Council, and spoke with business delegations.</p>
<p><strong>Nigeria-Indian Relations</strong><br />
India and Nigeria have always had cordial and amicable ties. By being the first official visitor to Nigeria, Jaishankar’s visit strengthened the two countries’ bilateral relations.</p>
<p>India’s pride in its past and determination to fortify its connections with Nigeria were underscored by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s visit to Nigeria.
