Girona falls behind second place as Savio’s quick-fire double defeats 10-man Rayo

Savio, a Brazilian winger, scored two goals in five minutes as a surprise gift. Girona defeated Rayo Vallecano 3-0 to take back the top spot in the La Liga standings. With twelve rounds remaining in the season, Savio enabled the Catalans to pass Barcelona and close the gap to leaders Real Madrid to just six points. Girona coach Michel said, “After three games without a win, the team needed to win. There is still a lot of work to be done.” “It was a challenging day. “What we witnessed on the field was more even; the 3-0 score is not what happened,” he said.

After Pep Chavarria was sent off with fifteen minutes remaining, Rayo is still seven points above the relegation zone in the first division of Spain.

After 52 minutes, Ukraine’s Viktor Tsygankov, a winger, scored the first goal with a deft side-footed finish.

With fifteen minutes remaining, Rayo’s hopes of winning in northern Spain were severely damaged when Chavarria received two yellow cards in the span of fifty seconds.

His first came after a late tackle on Yan Couto, then a few seconds later, he was sent for an early shower for a reckless challenge on Eric Garcia.

Savio then ensured that all three points were earned with his efforts during injury time; his second goal, which came after he sprinted down the right flank and scored, was the highlight.

Luka Modric, 38, came in as a late replacement on Sunday and scored a scorching goal as Real Madrid defeated Sevilla 1-0 to keep their league winning streak alive, which dates back to September.

With the return of Joao Felix and Raphinha, Xavi’s Barcelona team defeated Getafe 4-0 on Saturday, moving up to a temporary second place in the standings.

Fermin Lopez and Dutch midfielder Frenkie De Jong both found the net.

Almeria, the worst team, twice overcame a deficit to hold Atletico Madrid to a 2-2 tie. After 26 games this season, the draw left the hosts without a victory.

After losing 1-0 against Inter Milan in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 midweek match, Atletico now sits fourth, 13 points behind leaders Real Madrid.
