A crucial player for Gujarat Titans’ initial IPL 2024 match against Mumbai Indians is expected to be absent

The Gujarat Titans began their Indian Premier League (IPL) career a few years ago with great success, taking home the title in their very first season. Furthermore, they advanced to the championship game the previous year but lost to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on the last ball. However, things aren’t looking well for them ahead of IPL 2024. Due to an ankle ailment, Mohammed Shami has already been ruled out of the competition. Additionally, they will be without their foreign recruit, Matthew Wade, at least for their first game.

The Australian red-ball domestic Sheffield Shield competition final between Tasmania and the defending champions is scheduled for March 21–25. Wade will not be able to participate in his IPL team’s first game since he has chosen to remain behind and compete in the final. The Titans will play the Mumbai Indians in their season opener on March 24. Given that Hardik Pandya, the captain of the GT team last season, was moved to MI and will lead them this season, it is anticipated to be a legendary matchup.

Wade also has little chance of playing for the Titans in the second game. It seems improbable that the left-hander will make it in time for GT’s second game against CSK on March 26 if the Shield final stretches into the fourth or fifth day. Wade has let the Gujarat Titans know about this, and they have granted his request to remain for the championship game.

“He’s had a conversation with his IPL team, and they’re willing to let him remain here, so he could miss their first game. With Matt’s return to the team, his experience, and his late-season performances, we feel really fortunate, according to Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan. It’s interesting to note that with just four foreign players permitted, Wade may not start in the starting lineup.
